Commentsrecord rain fall this month, the snow has pretty well vanished in all areas. As usual, there is alot of debris down, snow plow damage, standing water, matted down turf, and snow mold in some areas. Contrary to popular belief, it is not very beneficial to just fertilize your turf as soon as the snow is gone- alot of turf plants are still coming out of dormancy and coupled with unpredictable weather, alot of an early applied fertilizer will just run-off or leach to areas not intended or wanted. We recommend waiting till at least the 1st or 2nd week in april. The best thing you can do to get your lawn and landscape going this spring, is a good spring cleanup. Remove all downed debris, try to drain water logged/flooded areas, rake out any matted down turf areas, and try to fit that plowed up chunk of turf back where it came from and tamp down. If you feel your lawn needs some seeding this spring for whatever reason, please contact us prior to doing so; so we may schedule proper timing for applications. AWAY, THERE MAY BE A FEW SURPRISES LEFT BEHIND. YOU MAY SEE SOME UNSIGHTLY DAMAGE FROM JB TURF RECOMMEND THAT YOU REMOVE DEBRIS THEN RAKE OUT OR DETHATCH
YOUR LAWN ASAP. THIS WILL HELP BREAK UP MATTED DOWN AREAS, AND ALLOW AIR INTO THE THATCH
AND ROOT ZONE. WE RECOMMEND A GYPSUM APPLICATION FOR SALT OR PET DAMAGED TURF. AS TEMPERATURES RISE AND THE TURF IS
FERTILIZED, YOU WILL LIKELY SEE SOME REGROWTH IN THESE DAMAGED AREAS. IF DEEMED NECESSARY, THE TURF MAY NEED TO BE RESEEDED.
THOUGH FALL IS THE BEST TIME FOR RESEEDING, SEVERE DAMAGE MAY NEED TO BE SEEDED RIGHT AWAY. |
